Eileen,

You article on assisted living was excellent.

My father, George, was in one for over 4 years. He was 82 when we had to relocate him after he and my mother had to be separated. He blossomed and it made our life easier. We didn't have to worry about his food and safety. And he started to participate in many of the activities at Flushing House (his assisted living facility in Flushing, NY.) He died 4 years ago. It was the best 4 years of his life.

Now Rande's father, Harry, is in "The Village", an assisted living facility in NYC. He is 86.
After the transition period of moving from a house to a one bedroom apartment, and the day-by-day living without his wife/life partner of 60 years (Rande's mother Helen- who died in Sept.), he is doing GREAT. He participates in everything and has made new friends and does more activities in a day, than I do in a week.

As Robert Browning said:
"Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be..."

Be well,
