Mark Isley, principal of Shelby Alternative School in Alabama, has created a leadership development reading program for the students of the third largest alternative school for at risk youth in Alabama. The goal of the program is to help students become more mature, better behaving, better decision makers. The program presents studenets with a leadership book that must read for about thirty minutes each day. When the book is completed the students discuss what they have learned and how it will help them and they share this information with other students at the school. Principal Isley started the program with the leadership books he had collected and read over the years and once the program received national attention authors and leaders all over the US and Canada have donated books for the students. Is there a school in your district that could use your leadership or other business books in the classroom or in the library? Don't let those books gather dust. Pass them on to a student who can benefit from them today.
