It's no secret that unhealthy employees negatively affect the bottom line. Longer work hours and less balanced lives are sending employees over the edge health wise. They eat more fast food, exercise less and find television to be the only activity that they can actually squeeze into their schedule. You can't control what your employees eat or whether they make it to the gym three times a week but you can help motivate them to get on the right track. Some simple changes you can make is to send out a health newsletter each month (ask your health insurance company if they offer this option to customers), post a new low fat recipe on the bulletin board each week and ask employees to contribute their favorites, arrange a discount to a gym nearby your office and encourage your employees to participate, offer green tea in the kitchen in addition to coffee and replace sodas in the vending machine with bottled water or pure fruit juice. Encouraging good health doesn't have to be an expensive or difficult process… once you start employees will give you feedback and offer new ideas.
