As we begin a new year, we close off months of many lights: Christmas lights, Hannukah candles, Kwanzaa Kinara or Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.
Regardless of religious affiliation, the metaphor of light strongly dispels the darkness of hatred, despair, fear, and blindness. The latter “blindness” is not about physical sight but rather being blind to the potential of good in oneself and others.
I am going to use the following quote as my daily meditation moving into 2023. Care to join me?
“I believe that each of us carries a bit of inner brightness, something entirely unique and individual. A flame that’s worth protecting. When we are able to recognize our own light, we become empowered to use it. When we learn to foster what’s unique in the people around us, we become better able to build compassionate communities and make meaningful change.” – Michelle Obama
