Not All Disruption is Equal

Just this past week, I’ve been booked to speak about disruption and resiliency at an international women’s conference in Dublin, at a leadership forum for Colorado School of Mines, and at a large healthcare network involved in a merger. Disruption is on everyone’s mind.

Within the same time period, a horrific 7.8 earthquake and tsunami rocked Indonesian killing thousands, drought halted river cruises in Europe, and a Supreme Court almost derailed by accusations and/or his behavior during a hearing.

All of these are examples of disruptions, events that break a pattern and shift the status quo. But too often, we think about disruption as it relates to technology, AI, and innovation. We read about driverless cars, robotics, 3-D metal printing, artificial embryos and an endless list of radical technologies to replace legacy systems.
