You're not dreaming. It's Publix, a market at the corner of Oakland Park Blvd and Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.

For decades, my 90 year-old Mom has been shopping here, greeted by clerks who know her and aisles that never change. I just happen to be in town to finally see what has become a tradition. With an aging population, it's obvious that a number of the customers have come here for dinner, intent upon turning numerous samples into a full course meal.

More leadership lessons from the garden

My garden provides lessons on the growing of talent within a work environment. This time, it was a change of gardener who made the difference! Like so many leaders, I have found myself on a hurried path, trying to not only do the work but make sure we have more in the pipeline. My time with the "rank-and-file" members of my garden had gone from infrequent to not at all. Roses had bugs, blossoms were scarce, and productivity was lacking. In stepped a new gardener: my recently-retired husband. He began to water, fertilize and fumigate the roses. Everyday he spent some time among them.
