I’ve always loved September and memories of going back to school. This year, much angst surrounds in-class learning, masks, you name it. I decided to take a different approach and ask: what can adults learn without wearing masks? The answer: you learn by paying attention.

Can you imagine wanting to make sure you drove by a certain gas station every day? Just to see what the message was on the chalk board? It's true—a gas station has become quite a landmark in Gauteng, South Africa, with its daily #PetrolPumpWisdom, which are uplifting quotes written on a chalkboard. Some people say they deliberately travel this route just to read the quote which brightens their day.
Gratitude: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
In dark times like these, here are some questions to ponder that might spread some sunshine and hope. How might you answer these:
What abilities do I have that I am grateful for?
What is one kind or thoughtful thing someone did for me recently?
What is one kind or thoughtful thing I did recently for someone?
Who do I appreciate and Why? (and when you decide—tell them!)
Remember, you don’t have to chase happiness. Be still. Pay attention and you’ll see it.
