"Eileen makes a powerful case for the role of the individual in beating burnout. Plus, she equips leaders with valuable questions and practices to help reduce chronic stress. Timely, relevant, and highly actionable. A perfect spiritual companion to my own book, The Burnout Gamble."

"Motivational speaker McDargh (Talk Ain’t Cheap... It’s Priceless!) tackles burnout and how to sustain one’s energy in this sharp work. McDargh explains her first encounter with burnout in 1984, which prompted her to research the topic and to dig into the work of psychologist Herbert Freudenberger, who first introduced the term. What she learned led McDargh to identify burnout as a “devotion to a cause, a way of life, or relationship that failed to produce the expected reward.

She provides self-assessments and writing exercises to identify instances of burnout alongside lists of statistics and anecdotes about those suffering through a “global epidemic” that the World Health Organization legitimized in 2019 by adding burnout to its list of health concerns.

McDargh posits that breakthroughs come from understanding how one’s mental energy is spent and setting boundaries to conserve one’s energy. She also warns against confusing breakthrough with balance (“Who are we trying to kid? There’s no such thing as balance”), as pursuing balance leads to false expectations of giving equal attention to all aspects of one’s life. Those feeling worn down by life and work will want to give this a look."

Burnout to Breakthrough

Building Resilience to Refuel, Recharge and Reclaim What Matters

Burnout to Breakthrough: Building Resilience to Refuel, Recharge, and Reclaim What Matters written by award-winning motivational speaker and executive coach Eileen McDargh presents an ingenious new way of analyzing burnout and shows how to develop four critical skills for building effective resilience.  If you have bought the book you can see the resources we have created for you!

For the first time, the World Health Organization has classified burnout as a global health problem. Renowned resiliency speaker Eileen McDargh proposes that to tackle it, we must break out of behaviors and mindsets that deplete our resources.

Breakout leads to breakthrough, allowing the readers to align energy to what matters most in their lives today. McDargh helps pinpoint the causes of your burnout and examine the energy demands that keep you from refueling and recharging.

She also tackles what managers and organizations do that create potential burnout scenarios and offers advice as to what organizational steps can be taken to counter energy drains. You'll analyze where and how energy is both created and exhausted: our heads (how we think), our hearts (what we feel), our hands (what we do) and our humor (how we recover). Lastly, you'll discover the role of "meaning" and "purpose" in countering the effects of a 24/7 life.
